TRAINING & PUBLICATIONS 

Emily Levin, LCSW-R is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Psychoanalyst and a Certified EMDR therapist in private practice in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Emily has over 12 years of experience in the field and has extensive, intensive training in multiple modalities and is foremost an integrative psychotherapist.

Emily attended Barnard College of Columbia University for her undergraduate education. She went onto receive her Masters in Social Work from The Silver School of Social Work, New York University. After receiving her Masters in Social Work, Emily attended the Four Year Adult Program in Psychoanlysis and Psychotherapy where she became a certified psychoanalyst and studied Relational Psychoanalysis. After this, Emily received a Certificate in Trauma Theory and Practice from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. During this time, Emily also became certified in EMDR. Through her work in EMDR, Emily developed a specific practice and research interest in early attachment trauma. She began more post graduate study as a candidate in the Parent-Infant Psychotherapy Program at the Columbia University Institute for Psychoanalysis. Through this program Emily did clinical work with parents and infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Emily received specialized intensive supervision on working within the Parent Infant Dyad. Emily has received training in working with women experiencing Postpartum Depression and anxiety at the Postpartum Stress Center. She has also been trained in the Theraplay modility with children and parents.

Emily is also a Gottman Certified Bringing Baby home therapist and has been trained in the Gottman Couples Therapy method.

As part of her integrative approach, Emily incorporates Mind Body therapies such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. She uses Internal Family Systems and Theraplay as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychoanalytic techniques. Emily believes in adapting and designing her treatment approach to each individual client.

Before opening her private practice, Emily worked for numerous years in agencies providing housing and support to the homeless and mentally ill population. She continues to use what she learned from that work in her private practice work.

Emily is currently the Co-Director of the One Year Evening Program in Psychotherapy at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. She is also a Clinical Supervisor in this program. Emily has had many presentations at NIP including treating women who choose to have children on their own, countertransference and shame issues when a patient suicides, workshops on developing a private practice, and a live supervision with the renowned therapist Edgar Levenson. Emily is published in the journal Psychoanlytic Perspectives.

Emily currently sees parent infant dyads, children, adolescents, adults and couples in her private practice.
